[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The internship program at Prairie Sun Recording<\/a> is an immersive\u00a0introduction to all aspects of studio operations. Unlike other studios,\u00a0which may have up to twenty interns working irregular shifts, Prairie\u00a0Sun instead retains a few dedicated full-timers. Our focus on a select\u00a0group of interns means that someone who is responsible and\u00a0hardworking will sit in on and help with sessions within months, not\u00a0years. Interns are the first here and the last to leave, involving them in\u00a0everything that happens at the studio from open to close.\u00a0We look for detail-oriented candidates who are highly motivated to\u00a0learn, have a basic understanding of studio technology, and are ready to\u00a0leave their pride at home for the sake of education and career.\u00a0Candidates must have a cell phone, a reliable car for running studio\u00a0errands and a burning desire to learn more about the recording industry.<\/p>\n

Management \u2022 Studio Management Training \u2022 Booking \u2022 Marketing<\/p>\n

Maintenance duties include: \u2022 Painting \u2022 Landscaping \u2022 Watering \u2022<\/p>\n

Cleaning Guest Facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

Studio Duties Include: \u2022 Errands \u2022 Cleaning \u2022 Gear and instrument<\/p>\n

upkeep \u2022 Interfacing and moving outboard gear \u2022 Helping Assistant<\/p>\n

During Sessions<\/strong> – setting up mics, wrapping cables, etc.\u00a0Like the studio, interns must be available at a moment\u2019s notice twenty four\u00a0hours a day, seven days a week. Mooka, Prairie Sun\u2019s owner, calls\u00a0it a \u201cboot-camp environment,\u201d meaning both that no job is too small,\u00a0and that upon successful completion of the program interns will be\u00a0better prepared for the rigors of studio work.<\/p>\n

Our internship program has been a starting point for a number of\u00a0successful producers and engineers, including all of the Prairie Sun\u00a0staff engineers. Prairie Sun engineers and interns have enjoyed the\u00a0opportunity to work with artists such as Tom Waits, Journey,\u00a0Groundation, The Mountain Goats, Primus, High on Fire, Red\u00a0Sparowes, and Joe Louis Walker, and assisted producers and engineers\u00a0such as Steve Albini, Billy Anderson, Tchad Blake, Scott Solter, and\u00a0John Vanderslice.\u00a0Recent studio manager Nick Tipp, who transitioned into managing\u00a0immediately after his internship, says,\u00a0\u201cAfter interviewing at all of the major recording studios and many of\u00a0the minor ones I discovered that there was only one place on the\u00a0entire west coast where I would have the opportunity to gain first\u00a0hand experience with an engineer on top-of-the-line equipment in a\u00a0serious facility, without waiting 6 months to a year, possibly longer.\u00a0This was possible because the company is essentially a very small\u00a0operation with a serious gear selection and rooms to match, as well as\u00a0the near constant influx of talented engineers and producers\u201d.<\/p>\n

Matt Wright was an intern less than a year ago with no formal\u00a0engineering training. Today he works side by side with some of the best.<\/p>\n
